A red evening lit up. Hundreds of explosions chorused into a thundering crescendo and stopped abruptly. It was dark again.

A few moments ago, a tabby had turned back and looked up at the horizon. It saw a bright grey sky suddenly appear in the distance and impose itself on a broken grey landscape littered with yellow, half-broken buildings, spewing tendrils of grey smoke. It mildly grimaced at the loud noise that followed, with the assured knowledge that the noise will stop as abruptly as it began. A momentary flash such as this one illuminated the continuing decay of the human society it once inhabited. Sighing imperceptibly, it continued on its long stroll, away from the noise and blunders of the humans. Away from the light.
